Postdoctoral position fellowship for healthcare professional in palliative care research

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic postdoctoral fellow to join the Pain and Palliative Care Research Group, led by Prof. Geana Paula Kurita, at the Section of Palliative Medicine, Department of Oncology, Rigshospitalet. The position is part-time, starting in July/August 2025, and is funded for six months with the possibility of extension.

Our Research Group

We are a multidisciplinary team comprising healthcare professionals from various specialties. Our group currently consists of one associate professor, two PhD students, one project nurse, and three volunteer researchers. Additionally, we collaborate with national and international research groups. Our goal is to generate evidence in the fields of chronic pain and palliative care. Current projects include multicentric studies, implementation studies, randomized controlled trials, observational studies, and systematic reviews.

Your Job

This is a part-time position (8 hours per week) for six months, with the primary responsibility of managing the local implementation of the project “MyPath: Developing and Implementing Innovative Patient-Centred Care Pathways for Cancer Patients.”

Key tasks include:

  • Designing the local study implementation process and data collection in collaboration with research and clinical team members.
  • Coordinate the local IT integration of MyPath electronic assessment tool
  • Participating in discussions with international research partners.
  • Conducting interviews with healthcare professionals and patients involved in the local project.
  • Analysing qualitative data.
Through this project, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with internationally recognized researchers in palliative care and cancer. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing written reports, and delivering project update presentations.

The MyPath project

This project is funded by the EU Horizon program, with the primary goal of developing, implementing, and evaluating digital patient-centered care pathways (PCCPs). These pathways integrate patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) to support shared decision-making between individuals with cancer and their professional caregivers in hospital settings.

MyPath will be rolled out across nine cancer centers in Europe, including Rigshospitalet, Denmark, and will undergo formal study to assess its effectiveness and sustainability.

Profile

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in health sciences, sociology, or a related field. We seek individuals who are passionate about science, highly motivated, hardworking, and eager to expand their skills within an outstanding research environment. Your role will involve driving the project forward and working closely with research and clinical teams to achieve scientific objectives.

Essential experience and skills

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

  • PhD in health sciences, sociology, or a related field, with a strong passion for problem-solving.
  • Extensive experience in a research environment, with a well-established publication record.
  • Expertise in data collection setup, patient inclusion, database design, data validation, and database management.
  • Strong expertise in both quantitative and qualitative analysis, with a focus on in-depth data interpretation.
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret complex datasets, with published outcomes using tools like NVivo.
  • Skilled in delivering clear and engaging presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, solve technical challenges, conduct data analysis, and generate innovative ideas.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comfortable preparing reports and working efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Fluent in Danish.
  • Excellent written and spoken English
Desirable experience and skills

  • Experience with implementation science projects.
  • Prior involvement in projects funded by EU Horizon programs.
Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Section of Medicine (klinik Lindrende Behandling), Department of Oncology, Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, DK

Start: Jul/Aug 2025

Duration: 6 months with possibility to extend for another 6 months

Terms of employment

This position is funded by an EU Horizon grant, with an initial workload of 8 hours per week. Additional hours may be available during peak periods, depending on workload demands and budget availability within the project.

This is a fixed-term role for six months, with the potential for extension. The anticipated start date is July or August 2025.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
