Assistant Professor in vascular inflammation and proteomics at Department of Biomedical Sciences

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic Assistant Professor for a 3 year position, commencing 21st November 2026.
The position focuses on how the complement system changes with ageing in the vascular wall, with particular emphasis on proteomic changes in arteries in aged humans and rodents with and without hypertension. The successful candidate will develop an independent research profile while contributing to collaborative research and teaching in an interdisciplinary biomedical environment.

Our research
The Jepps Lab at the University of Copenhagen is an exciting, highly translational vascular biology group where myography and cardiovascular physiology meet cutting-edge mass spectrometry and proteomics to uncover new mechanisms driving hypertension and vascular inflammation. By combining functional measurements of arterial tone and remodeling with deep proteomic profiling, the lab moves seamlessly from identifying disease-associated proteins and pathways to testing their physiological relevance in experimental models. What makes the lab particularly attractive is its clear ambition to translate discovery into patient benefit: findings from vascular physiology and proteomics are being used to understand how inflammation contributes to hypertension and to identify interventions that can be tested clinically. This translational pipeline is already becoming reality with colchicine, where mechanistic work on vascular inflammation and remodeling has progressed from experimental studies to the COHERENT randomized clinical trial investigating low-dose colchicine in patients with hypertension. For researchers who want to work across molecular discovery, quantitative proteomics, vascular physiology and clinical translation—and ultimately see laboratory findings move all the way toward clinical trials—the Jepps Lab offers a uniquely integrated and ambitious environment.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories, animal facilities and office space.
Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The starting date is 21st November 2026.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 42,100 DKK/approx. 5,600 EUR (August 2026 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18,07% to your pension fund.
Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- You have a PhD in health sciences.
- You are highly experienced with a substantial track record in performing and analysing mass spectrometry from different tissues, especially arteries – both rodent and human.
- You have an active interest in vascular physiology and vascular inflammation.
- You have extensive experience working with animals, particularly rodents, both in vivo and ex vivo.
- Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
- Competent with spatial proteomics and confocal microscopy.
- A strong track record of using Perseus, R and similar software’s for bioinformatic analyses.
- A teaching portfolio that spans several years of teaching within cardiovascular physiology.
- Excellent English skills written and spoken
- Experience of supervising Master’s and Bachelor students in research projects.
- Ability to multitask to push forward collaborative projects at the same time as undertaking your main research project.
- Evidence of successfully obtaining external funding.
