Laboratory/student assistant position at the Department of Biology

Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen is offering a 1-year laboratory/student assistant position with an average working time of 7 hours per week commencing 1 May 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Description of the scientific environment

The section for Cell and Neurobiology at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen (https://www1.bio.ku.dk/english/research/cell-neurobiology/) is recruiting a laboratory/student assistant to prepare fly food for the section.

Job description

The job will consist of running the fly food cooking facility at the Cell and Neurobiology section. The section consists of three fly labs who on a biweekly basis need fresh fly food to maintain our fly stocks and support our research programs. The food cooking will take place in a room dedicated for this purpose and will not involve any GMO work. The room is not GMO classified. The section features a large pot equipped with automatic heating, stirring, and cooling functions. Once prepared, the food must be dispensed into plastic tubes and vials using a food dispenser. The job entails coordinating with section members about the need for fly food on a weekly basis and ensure that high quality fly food is cooked and available as requested.

We expect

The primary responsibility will be large-scale preparation of fly food to support ongoing research in the Section for Cell and Neurobiology. Experience with preparing food at large scale is an advantage. The role requires strong organizational skills and regular communication with team members, as workload and priorities can change weekly. Because high-quality fly food is essential for our experiments, careful attention to detail and vigilance during preparation are critical.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment is made in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT-officers in the state.

You will be employed as a laboratory/student assistant at salary grade 1. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 7 hours per week on average. The employment is fixed-term for 1 year.
