153026 Clinical Professor of Paediatric with special focus on Paediatric Endocrinology (Fixed-Term, 5 Years)

The University seeks to appoint a clinical professor of paediatric with special focus on paediatric endocrinology to commence as soon as possible. The externally funded professorship is combined with a consultancy at Copenhagen University Hospital – Herlev and Gentofte, Department of paediatric and adolescent medicine in the Capital Region.

It is a requirement for appointment that the applicant is accepted for both the professorship and the consultancy. In order to be considered for the position, the applicant must send two applications: one to the Faculty (the professorship) and one to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the consultancy. Both the professorship and the consultancy will be financed by the Hospital.

Job description
In the consideration of applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of paediatric.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination - The professor is expected to conduct research on the etiological factors contributing to the development of overweight in children and adolescents, including the intrauterine environment and birth weight. Mapping these factors will provide a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in the development of overweight and thereby form the basis for preventive initiatives. Despite the growing need, there is still no effective, evidence-based treatment for overweight in children and adolescents. Collaboration among experts in areas such as paediatric endocrinology, metabolism, social paediatrics, and psychiatry is anticipated.
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination - The professor in Paediatric Endocrinology will be responsible for the research-based teaching in paediatric endocrinology of medical students during their course in paediatrics. Additionally, teaching and supervision of young doctors under training and paediatric nurses. Furthermore, a professor in paediatric endocrinology will be expected to participate in teaching and sharing knowledge at courses and conferences both nationally and internationally.
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers - The professor in paediatrics is expected to serve as the research leader of an already established research group dedicated to advancing knowledge within the specific research area. This role involves setting the strategic direction and priorities for the research activities fostering a collaborative and productive research environment. The professor will be responsible for mentoring and providing principal supervision to multiple graduate and undergraduate students, including PhD candidates, master’s students, and bachelor’s students supporting their academic and professional development. In addition, the professor will be expected to secure funding, establish collaborations both nationally and internationally, publish high-quality research findings, and contribute to the overall growth and visibility of the research group within the academic and clinical communities.

Required qualifications
To be qualified for a clinical professor position, you will be assessed according to these six overall criteria for recognising merit at the University of Copenhagen: Research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding, and leadership. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to:

  • Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline
  • Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
  • Provide research-based teaching
The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of five years. Extension is possible if the employed candidate performs well in the position.

For the professorship the appointee will receive a pensionable annual honorarium of 215,724.06 DKK (1 November 2025 level).

Application procedure
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
