Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy applications specialist at CFIB (Core Facility for Integrated Bioimaging)

Applications are invited for a position as Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy applications specialist at the Core Facility for Integrated Bioimaging (CFIB), Center for Core Facilities, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to commence as soon as possible after 1st January 2026 until 31st July 2030.

CFIB has been newly launched as the fusion of two existing core facilities; the Core Facility for Integrated Microscopy (www.cfim.ku.dk) and the NMR Center (https://nmr.ku.dk). CFIM was inaugurated in August 2010 and has serviced more than 2400 users with access to state of the art light and electron microscopes. Supported by a Novo Nordisk Foundation grant, CFIM has implemented Light Sheet microscopy of live and fixed/cleared samples as open access services. CFIM currently have two Light Sheet systems: a Zeiss Light Sheet 7 and a 3i AxL Light Sheet microscope for large, cleared samples or high throughput imaging of medium/small sized samples.

The successful applicant will join a highly international team composed of two preclinical, four light, and three electron microscopy application specialists, an image analyst, and a laboratory technician - covering ten different nationalities. The CFIB is part of the newly created Center for Core Facilities, and is located in the center of Copenhagen, at the North Campus of the University. CCF has the mission of providing the highest-level user service provision in advanced bioimaging technologies to internal and external users from a broad range of scientific disciplines. CFIB focuses on the development of multimodal bioimaging workflows, bridging preclinical imaging and high-resolution imaging modalities to best answer research questions across scales.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Operating existing and implementing new Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM) services at CFIB in collaboration with CFIB’s staff
  • Developing/implementing sample preparation protocols for live and cleared samples with focus on SPIM
  • Creating data-handling and post-processing solutions for the acquired SPIM datasets in collaboration with the CFIB image analyst
  • Performing maintenance and development of all systems at CFIB, with focus on SPIM
  • Contributing to basic introductions and advanced training and supporting users on all CFIB light microscopes
  • Meeting CFIB users to define optimal imaging strategies according to the facility’s portfolio
  • Staying up to date with the latest developments in microscopy methods and technology, with focus on SPIM
  • Helping with the organization of and the teaching in CFIB courses
The successful applicant should have:

  • Relevant experience in light microscopy applications in general, holding a M.Sc. or preferably a PhD. degree in related scientific disciplines
  • Expertise in SPIM technologies, including live and clearing methods
  • Strong motivation to support and train users with a problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent social, communication and organization skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Previous experience with SPIM data management, processing and analysis will be considered an advantage
Salary and employment terms

Employment is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), or other collective agreement relevant to your education.

The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experience and qualifications.
