Plant Section is seeking an experienced technician for molecular biology research preferably with expertise in confocal microscopy and molecular cloning

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the innovative Universitetsbyen invites applications for a dedicated laboratory technician. Join our inclusive laboratory and contribute meaningfully as a core member of a research team, mentored by Professor Simona Radutoiu.
 
We are at the forefront of researching plant-bacterial symbiosis with the goal of unlocking the full potential of both plants and bacteria to foster sustainable and climate-friendly agricultural practices. Our research is funded by ambitious programs, and our team consists of dedicated scientists and students committed to advancing knowledge and achieving project goals efficiently. Our research focuses on understanding the intricate interactions between plants and bacterial communities is pivotal in current research and agricultural needs.

Your Key Responsibilities:



Molecular Biology & Plant Science:
• Perform DNA- based  analyses and plant phenotyping
• Conduct plant-related assays, from seed propagation to single-cell isolation
• Perform in-silico DNA cloning and manage our construct/plasmid repository

Microscopy & Data Analysis:
• Operate confocal microscopes for sample analysis
• Process and analyze complex image data

Experiment Design & performance:
• Collaborate with researchers to design and perform plant experiments
• Troubleshoot experimental procedures and optimize protocols
• Assist in developing new experimental techniques
• Share the expertise and knowledge to other researchers in the group
• Ensure an efficient and productive data acquisition.

Lab maintenance:
• Oversee lab supplies and shipment coordination
• Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration and repairs
• Implement and uphold safety protocols and documentation

Team Support:
• Teach and help junior lab members
• Assist with daily lab operations
• Contribute proactively to efficient running lab.

You are a proactive and skilled laboratory technician who can seamlessly blend scientific expertise with practical lab coordination. The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess a strong foundation in molecular biology, with proficiency in genetic analysis methods and precise quantification techniques

  • Have hands-on experience with plant work, particularly in single-cell techniques and confocal microscopy

  • Demonstrate interest in data analysis and interpretation, especially with complex microscopy images

  • Excel in independent work while also thriving in a collaborative research environment

  • Exhibit strong organizational skills, structured work habits, and the ability to self-plan

  • Display flexibility and eagerness to support various lab needs as they arise

 



Who are we?

The Plant molecular biology section's activities focus on genetic, molecular and biochemical research in the model plant Lotus japonicus as well as several crop plants such as barley, maize and wheat. 
 
The research seeks to elucidate and understand the mechanisms behind genetic control of signal transduction, cell differentiation, developmental processes, local adaptation and plant-microbe interactions. Key research areas include symbiotic nitrogen fixation, plant perception of microbial signaling molecules, susceptibility to pathogens and colonization by symbiotic and endophytic bacteria/fungi.
